If you're presently running a paid-for ad, or intending to run one, I'm more than happy to contact you back by phone. It's very important that you give my staff something that identifies your paid ad, such is a PIN, e-mail address or postcode that is in the ad, because I don't return calls to free advertisers. Why ?

Because the people answering you will assume that you a customer paying a fee to use the site, and they will promise you a return call, but you won't get one unless you have paid to use the site.

A significant proportion of free ads do not get on the site This isn't because the site isn't working properly, it is because we have declined the offer of the free ad on our site. MoveFlat has always worked this way.

But the site has become very popular and I want to advertise on it for free ?

The site has gained a popularity, but it isn't the biggest flatshare site in London, and there are significant others that will display all free ads to a significantly larger audience than MoveFlat enjoys. There is a rather thinly veiled message in that previous sentence, which could have been expressed less politely, but that's not the way we operate.

Why ?

Because you won't get a response.

Why ?

Because we are doing something for you already for free, and responding to your call costs us money which we do not owe you.

If we are hosting your free ad on MoveFlat, then with the very greatest of respect, .we are already doing quite a lot for you by hosting your ad for free on a good site, and we hope you will respect that you are a very welcome guest on the site,but not yet a 'customer.'

But it's only a tiny thing I want done ?

Responding to 'tiny things' takes a lot of our time and we don't owe you this time: nearly all the problems occur because somebody mis-typed their e-mail address, didn't write down their PIN number and therfore gets stuck. There really isn't any good reason why we should have to 'clean up' after this sort of thing AND carry the ad for free, and we have decided not to do it. The way of remedying such a situation for yourself is to repost the ad anew. We will probably spot this later and stop the old ad.

Well that's very poor customer service and I'm going to go elsewhere !

In our experience it's pretty unikely that many people are really going to respond with saying the above. We rather take the view that if you're not paying any money to us and advertising for free on a site of some pedigree now, then we are conveying a benefit to you. We exercise very considerable discretion over what we accept for free on MoveFlat and in our view it is we who are the 'customer' in this particular situation. This is the way we choose to run our site and business, and we are entirely cogniscent of the fact that other web sites differ.
