Using on-line maps with this site

Provided an advertiser has furnished a correct post code, each moveflat ad has a link to StreetMap.co.uk and GoogleMaps

Each map provider has their strengths and weaknesses, and in our opinion StreetMap is the better service presently except for the pop-ups.

These on-line maps are a powerful way to do a little bit of 'research' behind an advert.

And this can be really good to do when phoning up or e-mailing because it either shows that you are serious or alternatively that you aren't going to be easily duped.

StreetMap.co.uk gives you snappy little London maps with tube and overground stations clearly marked. This is quite handy if you don't mind finding a pop-up window for Dell Computers or Match.com on your PC sometime later, or six of them sometime later.

GoogleMaps don't do popups, and the technology is more sophisticated. Unfortunately the end result is not and we think the interface doesn't best suit what people tend to want to do on MoveFlat: ie something quick.

HOWEVER GoogleMaps have this feature which they don't really tell you about zooming in on a street (like in GoogleEarth.) there's a thing that looks a bit like a zip in the left hand corner which you have to push to max magnification .. and then you're looking down their ... chimney

If you try it, the possibilities get very exciting. Slight note of caution about postcodes though. The arrow on the photo always points at the house with the burnt-out car in the garden: that's probably ten doors away because the postcode is only accurate to within one or two streets. One of the interesting things about London is that in general people are pretty happy with the burnt out car being one or two streets away, providing it's not next door.
